Dispersal zone in force in Wallasey after reports of anti-social behaviour
It follows reports of young people hanging around on e-bikes
A dispersal zone is in place in Wallasey Village and the surrounding areas to ensure the safety of residents following reports of antisocial behaviour.
The order came into force at 6pm on Friday 30th January and will run for 48 hours until 6pm on Sunday.
It follows reports of young people gathered on e-bikes were behaving antisocially earlier today.
The dispersal zone covers roads including Coastal Drive, Bayswater Road, A5139, Breck Road, Claremount Road and Sandcliffe Road.
It also encompasses St Hilary Brow/Breck Road, St Hilary Brow/Claremount Road, Harrison Park, Wallacre Park and Cross Lane Woods.
It comes under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour & Policing Act 2014, which gives police officers and police community support traffic officers powers to direct people who are engaging antisocial behaviour or are likely to become involved in such incidents.
These powers will not be used for anyone visiting the area and going about their daily business.
Under the legislation, officers have the power to seize any item used in the commission of antisocial behaviour. Should a person who has previously been directed to leave the area return, an offence would be committed, which they may ultimately be arrested for.
Inspector Ian Wild said: “We have put this dispersal zone in place in response to a gathering of youths reported at around 4.30pm today, where many were riding anti-socially on e-bikes.
“Officers attended the reports and the group dispersed, but the introduction of this dispersal zone gives us additional powers to prevent them causing further distress in our community.
“We have increased patrols in the area to help enforce the dispersal zone and I would ask people to continue reporting any concerns so that we can take action.
“I would like to remind parents and guardians of the importance of knowing where your child is and what they are up to - no parent wants a knock on their door from a police officer informing them that their child has got into trouble or worse.”
