Woman arrested at Liverpool Airport after city centre hit and run left man seriously hurt
Detectives are appealing for witnesses and footage
A woman has been arrested at Liverpool John Lennon Airport after a hit and run left a man seriously hurt in the city centre.
Officers met an inbound flight in the early hours of Friday 21st August 2026 and arrested a 34-year-old woman from Liverpool.
She was held on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and failing to stop and report a crash.
The woman was taken to a police station, where she remains in custody and will be interviewed by detectives.
What happened
The arrest follows a crash on Mariners Wharf at around 11:40pm on Tuesday 11th August 2026.
A black Range Rover was involved in a crash with a 27-year-old pedestrian, who was walking along the pavement with his partner when the vehicle mounted the path.
He was seriously hurt and taken to hospital, and is now recovering at home.
Merseyside Police say the woman who was driving the Range Rover ran away from the scene on foot.
What police have said
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the Senior Investigating Officer from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a serious incident that has left a visitor to our city with significant injuries. Driving of this nature will not be tolerated on our streets, and we will do everything we can to prevent it and bring offenders before the courts.
"Although we have made a successful arrest this morning, I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police to contact my investigation team.
"I would also urge residents and businesses in the area to review any CCTV, dashcam or other footage which may have captured the incident or the movements of the black Range Rover before the collision occurred."
