Police are appealing for information after a protected ancient monument near Wrexham was damaged.

North Wales Police say electric bikes were ridden over the remains of a historic motte and bailey castle at Erddig Hall on 10th April.

The site is protected due to its historical importance, and officers say the activity has caused damage to the structure.

What happened

According to North Wales Police, the incident involved people riding electric bikes within the grounds of Erddig Hall without permission from the landowner.

The castle remains are designated by Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service, to preserve them for future generations.

PC Dave Allen from the Rural Crime Team said: “The individuals who rode electric bikes in this area did not seek permission from the landowner and have also committed heritage crime offences.”

He added: “The remains of the castle are designated by CADW for their historical value and to protect them for future generations.”

Police are now asking anyone with information about the damage to come forward.

They are being asked to contact North Wales Police via their website or by calling 101, quoting reference O054202.

Officers say protecting historic sites remains a priority, with incidents like this treated as heritage crime.
