Police HQ sale paves way for transformative waterfront redevelopment in Liverpool
Homes England acquires former police HQ for £17m, plans mixed-use development
Liverpool's waterfront is set for a major transformation as Merseyside's Police and Crime Commissioner, Emily Spurrell, completes the £17 million sale of the former police headquarters at Canning Place to Homes England.
The iconic site, which served as Merseyside Police's headquarters for over 40 years, now opens the door for a high-quality, mixed-use residential-led development scheme.
Planned features include new homes, a hotel, shops, leisure facilities, and areas of open space, with the strategy informed by ongoing public and stakeholder engagement.
The sale follows a rigorous disposal process, attracting 13 bids over nine weeks. Homes England's successful bid was selected based on criteria including design quality, social value, environmental considerations, and team experience.
Danielle Gillespie, Executive Regional Director (North West) at Homes England, expressed excitement over the acquisition, highlighting its potential to boost housing and regeneration in collaboration with Liverpool City Council and stakeholders.
The redevelopment marks a new chapter for one of Liverpool's prime waterfront sites, fostering opportunities for revitalization and community engagement while maintaining its legacy.
