Police are appealing for witnesses after a six-year-old boy died following a collision with a car in Ellesmere Port.

Officers were called at around 11.40am on Sunday 19th April to reports of a collision involving a black Infiniti FX30D and a child on Anchor Drive.

The boy was initially taken to hospital by family members. Police and paramedics later met them near Whitby Sports and Social Club before the child was transferred to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the boy later died in hospital from his injuries. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A 48-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence. He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Iain Condliffe, of the Cheshire Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident in which a young child lost his life, and we are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.

“As part of our investigation, we’re keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the initial collision on Anchor Drive, or anyone with any video footage or the incident.

“I’d also like to hear from anyone who was present when the child was later treated near to Whitby Sports and Social Club.”
