Man left unconscious after riding his bike into a 'rope trap' on the Wirral
The victim was left with serious injuries after being flung from his bike
A man is in hospital after riding his electric bike into a trap on the Wirral.
The victim, in his 60s, had been riding near to Downham Road in Mersey Park at around 3pm when he struck a rope which had been deliberately tied across the path.
He sustained a serious eye injury and facial injuries, and lost consciousness.
Enquiries are ongoing, including witnesses and CCTV.
Detective Inspector Andrew Schofield said:
"This was an appalling incident, in which a man riding his bike on Easter Monday was targeted by a deliberate and highly dangerous act. "The injuries are serious but could have been even more catastrophic for the victim, who will nonetheless have been extremely shaken by what happened.
"We initially believe that a group of youths were involved and we are making extensive efforts to identify them.
"The park will have been busy with people enjoying the Bank Holiday so if you saw the incident or anyone making off from the area, please come forward. Likewise, any photos, videos, CCTV or dashcam could be vital in bringing those responsible before the courts. If you know who these offenders are, do the right thing and we can ensure nobody else is targeted in such a way."
