Man charged with attempted murder after woman stabbed in Warrington

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed at a house in Warrington.

Emergency services were called to Manchester Road in Woolston at around 16:00BST on Monday (13 October).

The 55-year-old woman was rushed to hospital by air ambulance, where she remains in a critical condition.

Police arrested a 61-year-old Gavin Shaw on suspicion of attempted murder.

He has now been charged and is due to appear before Warrington Magistrates' Court today (Wednesday 15 October0).

A scene remains in place at the address on Manchester Road and additional officers are patrolling the area to offer reassurance.

Cheshire Police are treating the stabbing as a domestic incident and do not believe there is any wider risk to the public.
