Arrests made following protest near bombed-out church in Liverpool
Demonstration disrupted traffic in Liverpool city centre on Sunday afternoon
Three people have been arrested after a protest disrupted Liverpool city centre this afternoon (Sunday 27th July), near the well-known Bombed Out Church.
The protest was associated with the regular march by the Liverpool Friends of Palestine Group, which began at 2pm.
While the procession continued along its usual route, a splinter group of around 40 people staged a sit-in at the junction of Berry Street and Hardman Street.
Merseyside Police confirmed the arrests were made on suspicion of causing a public nuisance. The individuals remain in custody for questioning.
A police spokesperson said the demonstration caused disruption in the area but confirmed: “The protest has now finished and everyone has left the area.”
The Bombed Out Church, a prominent landmark in Liverpool, has previously been the site of public gatherings and protests due to its central location.
