Arrest after man 'shot in neck' in Merseyside village
Police were called to a street in Melling this morning (Wednesday 01 July)
A man has been rushed to hospital after he was reportedly 'shot in the neck' with an air rifle in an village on Merseyside.
Police were called to the Waddicar Lane area of Melling at around 11:15BST this morning (Wednesday 01 July).
The man is said to be in a stable condition, and another man, aged 35, has been arrested on suspicion of s18 wounding and possession of a firearm.
Officers have been seen going house-to-house and are reviewing CCTV footage as part of early inquiries.
Sefton neighbourhood Chief Inspector Dave Uren said: “The investigation is in the very early stages as we speak to witnesses and establish what has taken place.
“A man has been taken to hospital and we have made an arrest but we would urgently appeal for anyone who was in the area of Waddicar Lane this morning who heard or saw anything suspicious to contact us.
“Weapons have no place on the streets of Merseyside as we know the devastation they can cause so my appeal would be for the public to support us by telling us what they know.”
