Alex Greenwood among those to receive New Year Honours

She has been praised for her impact to football.

England Lioness - Liverpool's Alex Greenwood is among those from Merseyside recognised in the New Year Honours - she’s been awarded an MBE for her services to football.

Greenwood started her career at Everton before playing for Liverpool, Man United and her current club Man City.

She has made over 100 appearances for England and played her part in England retaining the Euros.

Elsewhere others across Merseyside have been honoured.

St Helens foster carers David and Susan Cook have also been honoured for their years of dedication helping vulnerable children.

Mary Bennett the CEO of Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust has been honoured with an MBE for services to the NHS.

While rugby league referee Tara Jones receives the same honour for services to the sport.
