Accrington man arrested after fatal collision in Liverpool

A man from Accrington has been arrested after a fatal collision in Liverpool.

Emergency services were called to Walton Lane, near to the junction with Walton Village, at around 10:30am today (11 February) after reports of a collision involving a green HGV and a female pedestrian.

She sadly died at the scene - her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained Family Liaison Officers.

A 62-year-old man from Accrington is being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The road is still closed while the investigation continues.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from the Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said:

"My thoughts are with the women’s family at this awful time and our priority is to get answers for them. Although someone has been arrested, this investigation remains in the very early stages and I appeal to anyone with information to come forward and help us establish the full circumstances of this incident.

"I am keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on Walton Lane, near to Walton Village, at around 10.30am who witnessed what happened and who has yet to speak to my team, to please get in touch. Additionally, if your vehicle is fitted with front or rear dash cameras, then please check to see if it has captured anything that you may be unaware of. This could prove to be important to our enquiries.

"Finally, my sincere thanks to those members of the public who stopped at the scene and assisted where they could. I appreciate that this was a traumatic incident and your help is greatly appreciated. Road closures remain in place and I thank motorists for their patience, whilst we carry out vital collision investigation work."
