An 88-year-old man has died after a crash in Warrington.

Emergency services were called to Penketh Road in Great Sankey shortly after 4.20pm on Saturday 14th March.

Officers found a silver Ford Transit Custom van had crashed into a stationary black Audi A3.

The driver of the van, an 88-year-old man from Widnes, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Police said the Audi was unoccupied at the time.

Investigation underway

Detectives are now asking anyone who saw what happened, or who may have dashcam footage, to get in touch.

Officers believe footage from the area around the time of the crash could help establish the circumstances leading up to it.

Detective Sergeant Amy Hollis, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Enquiries are currently ongoing, and we are now looking to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened.

“The same goes for anyone who may have any dashcam footage which could help our investigation.

“You can report information to us via cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, or call 101, quoting IML-2288848.”
