Windmill set to turn again as community invited back inside
Sibsey Trader Mill reopens on May 2nd for first time in almost a decade
A historic windmill near Boston is reopening from May 2nd and hoping to bring a piece of Lincolnshire’s past back to life.
Sibsey Trader Mill, run by English Heritage, will welcome visitors for the first time in nearly a decade after major restoration work.
For Rob Negus, who manages the site, the project has gone one step further – he’s even trained as a miller himself.
“It seemed like the logical thing to do,” he said. “It’s been a learning curve, but a really enjoyable process.”
The aim now is to make the mill more than just a historic building, turning it into a “living” experience for visitors.
“You have to be part of the process… to really understand it,” Rob explained. “It really is an art form.”
Over the summer, the team hopes to start producing small batches of traditional stoneground flour again, using the same methods that once supplied the local community.
Visitors will be able to see the machinery in action, learn how flour is made, and experience a working windmill up close.
“We’re really excited to show off everything we’ve done,” Rob said. “We’d love people to come and see it.”
