North Lincolnshire councillor Sue Armitage dies
Tributes are being paid to a former North Lincolnshire Mayor and long serving councillor following her death
A long-serving councillor in North Lincolnshire has sadly died. Cllr Sue Armitage (Labour) had been a Brumby Ward councillor since 2007.
North Lincolnshire Labour Group has issued a statement announcing Cllr Armitage’s passing, and paying tribute to her. “Sue served the Brumby Ward with dedication and distinction since 2007.
“Her commitment to the community was unwavering, and her contributions will be remembered for years to come,” the Labour Group has stated. Cllr Armitage won election as a Brumby Ward councillor in 2007, and won all her re-election bids.
She was the Mayor of North Lincolnshire in 2009-10 and the Deputy Mayor in 2008-09. She was a passionate advocate for the redevelopment of Westcliff, and a driving force behind the success of Westcliff Community Works. As chair of the Brumby Neighbourhood Action Team (NAT), she worked tirelessly on projects to tackle anti-social behaviour and improve the quality of life for residents.
She also served on Gunness Parish Council for many years, further demonstrating her commitment to local communities. More recently, Cllr Armitage was the Labour shadow spokesperson on North Lincolnshire Council’s licensing committee, and a member of the care experience executive board. Over the years, she also served as a member of the council’s planning committee, standards committee, and various scrutiny panels, as well as at one stage being the lead member for communities.
The Labour Group’s statement adds: “She was not only a respected councillor but also a good friend and colleague to many. Sue’s legacy is one of service, leadership, and care for others.
“Her dedication and kindness touched countless lives, and her impact will continue to be felt across North Lincolnshire. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.”
For anyone wanting to attend Cllr Armitage’s funeral, this will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 1:20pm at Woodlands Crematorium. Attendees are encouraged to please feel free to wear Cllr Armitage’s favourite colour, yellow.
If anyone was wanting to bring flowers, the family are asking that instead, a donation be made to their chosen charity at the service. This is Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
