A Lincolnshire special constable has been dismissed without notice after being found guilty of gross misconduct following a positive cocaine test.

Samuel Toynbee was the subject of a misconduct hearing at Grantham Police Station on 28 and 29 September.

An independent panel found he had breached professional standards for discreditable conduct after testing positive for cocaine and the cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine.

The test was carried out in July 2025 as part of his application to become a regular police officer.

SC Toynbee had previously told the hearing that he had "100 per cent never taken any illicit drugs" and claimed the result could have come from coming into contact with drug users and dealers through his work.

An independent toxicologist said "ingestion was more likely than exposure" based on the levels found.

The panel chair, Charley Rimmer, said the evidence pointed towards SC Toynbee having taken cocaine and that his behaviour had breached the standards of professional behaviour.

SC Toynbee had served as a special constable for around two years and completed more than 2,000 hours as a volunteer before the positive test.

He has now been dismissed from the Special Constabulary without notice.
