New support line offers reassurance for families facing end-of-life care
A free phone call can bring reassurance during life's most difficult moments

Families caring for a loved one at the end of their life are being reminded they don't have to face it alone, as Lindsey Lodge Hospice relaunches its specialist support phone line.
The hospice has renamed its former Butterfly Line as the Palliative Care Support Line, with the free service continuing to offer expert advice, emotional support and practical guidance for patients, families and carers across North Lincolnshire.
Open seven days a week from 8am to 7pm, the line gives people direct access to specialist professionals who can help manage symptoms, explain what to expect as an illness progresses and provide reassurance during what can be an overwhelming time.
The service also supports people who wish to remain at home, helping avoid unnecessary trips to hospital where possible.
Helen Turner from Lindsey Lodge Hospice said families often need reassurance when a loved one's condition changes.
"People naturally panic towards the end. There are changes to symptoms and people don't know what to expect."
"It doesn't matter how much health professionals try and support people to anticipate what might be coming. When it's happening in front of you to a loved one, it's very difficult."
Helen said having expert advice just a phone call away can make a huge difference.
"This line provides some of that support and expertise right there to make sure we can try and keep the individual in their own home."
The Palliative Care Support Line is free to use and is available to anyone receiving palliative or end-of-life care, as well as their family members, friends and carers.
For support, call 01724 454392 between 8am and 7pm, seven days a week.
