New North Lincolnshire Mayor announces charities she’ll champion
Councillor Janet Lee says she wants to support people affected by cancer during her year in office
The new Mayor of North Lincolnshire has announced the charities she will support during her year in office.
Councillor Janet Lee, who represents the Broughton and Scawby ward, was confirmed as the authority’s 30th ceremonial mayor at North Lincolnshire Council’s annual meeting last month.
As part of the role, the mayor raises money and awareness for local causes through civic events and community fundraising.
Councillor Lee has chosen Hope House in Bottesford and Macmillan Cancer Support Scunthorpe as her mayoral charities for 2026 and 2027.
She said both organisations “make a real difference to the lives of so many people”.
Hope House supports people living with cancer and long-term health conditions, while Macmillan Cancer Support Scunthorpe provides advice and support services for people affected by cancer across the area.
Councillor Lee said: “It is an honour and privilege to be elected as the 30th Mayor of North Lincolnshire.
“I am proud to represent our communities and look forward to meeting residents, businesses and organisations across the county during my year in office.”
The role of Mayor of North Lincolnshire is largely ceremonial and includes attending events, supporting charities and chairing full council meetings.
Outgoing mayor Councillor Carol Ross raised more than twenty five thousand pounds for charity during her year in office, with funds going to Jen’s Special Place and Macmillan Cancer Support Scunthorpe.
