Man jailed after causing over 32 hours of train delays in Lincoln
It cost the railway line over £67,000
A man who delayed hundreds of train journeys in Lincoln and cost the rail industry thousands of pounds has been jailed for 16 months.
60-year-old Robert Nicholson was previously found guilty of two counts of obstructing the railway and one count of possession of a bladed article.
The court heard how Nicholson caused significant disruption to trains on two occasions, standing in a precarious position over the railway lines on top of a car park in Brayford Wharf East in Lincoln.
He caused over 32 hours of delays which cost the railway more than £67,000.
The first incident was on 2nd December 2025.
Nicholson was in position for more than an hour and caused disruption to 15 trains before officers detained him.
He was bailed and the very next day, he returned.
This time, he came with alcohol and two knives.
All trains on the line below had to be stopped.
Nicholson was soon arrested and charged.
BTP PC Joseph Jenkins said: “As well as the substantial disruption, Nicholson’s actions put himself in harm’s way, as well as responding officers and people travelling on the trains below.
“This custodial sentence will allow him plenty of time to think about his actions and hopefully deter him from making the same mistakes again."
