Investigation into if Grantham house fire was started deliberately
Crews were called to the property on Dysart Road on Monday evening, the home has been severely damaged
A house fire in Grantham is being investigated by police to discover if it was started deliberately.
Officers say it broke out on Dysart Road last night around 11.30pm (July 1st).
The blaze has left the home unliveable.
At the moment the cause is not known, and specialist fire investigators are on the scene today to carry out enquiries.
The fire has caused significant damage to the roof and first floor of the property, and efforts to safely extinguish it have left the interior flooded. There has also been damage caused to a neighbouring property. The family were thankfully not home and there have been no reported injuries.
This fire is thought to have started in the garden area and quickly spread to the house. It was tackled by five crews, including one from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue.
Lincolnshire Police said:
"We are treating this as a stand-alone investigation, but we are keeping an open mind as we progress about whether there is a connection with three other fires in the Grantham area which have been confirmed to be arson in recent weeks. A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with two of those incidents.
"This is not yet confirmed as being deliberate, but we are taking every precaution to ensure we have gathered evidence needed if it is arson.
"Officers will be in the area throughout the day carrying out house-to-house enquiries and other investigations, and we would urge anyone with information to speak to officers and share what they know."
