Gainsborough Trinity issues warning over fake manager impersonations
False approaches made to non-league players under manager’s name
Gainsborough Trinity Football Club has issued a strong condemnation following reports of an individual falsely claiming to be their First-Team Manager, Russ Wilcox, and making fraudulent approaches to players across the non-league game.
The club was made aware of the impersonator's actions, who communicated with players about potential transfers and wage offers while falsely representing Russ Wilcox and the club.
Matt Boles, CEO of Gainsborough Trinity FC, expressed disapproval of the impersonator's actions, emphasising their unacceptable nature which could cause unnecessary disruption and reputational damage.
The club has already notified the Northern Premier League and The Football Association of these incidents.
Boles thanked club managers and officials who recognised the false nature of the impersonator’s approach due to their familiarity with Wilcox's professional standards.
The club urges the impersonator to cease their activities immediately, highlighting the fraudulent act's impact on players and teams in the non-league game.
