A large-scale youth project aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour and improving opportunities for young people has arrived in Boston.

The Beyond programme travels around Lincolnshire in 12-week blocks, working with nine to 18-year-olds.

Kathryn Smith from Lincolnshire County Council said the programme was created after residents were asked how anti-social behaviour could be addressed in their communities.

“What came back from that input was more education and more positive activities for young people to engage with,” she said.

Activities include football sessions, leadership awards and workshops focused on emotional resilience and community awareness.

“We’re trying to get them to look at their community, look at the different aspects that are important and how our thoughts, feelings and behaviours can have an impact not only on ourselves, but on those around us as well,” Kathryn added.

As part of the programme, primary school pupils also write letters to local councillors about changes they would like to see in their area.

“The kids have actually loved it,” Kathryn said. “One of the things they put in their evaluation was: ‘I love having my voice heard.’”

Information about activities is available through local schools, youth centres and Lincolnshire County Council’s community safety channels.
