Council appeal for more foster carers to help change children's lives
North Lincolnshire Council are running 'Foster Care Fortnight' until May 25th
North Lincolnshire Council have been telling us about the life changing role of foster carers as they appeal for more people to come forward.
Fostering is about offering a safe home, regardless of relationship status or gender - and the council tell hope to break down common misconceptions this Foster Care Fortnight.
We've been speaking to Councillor for Children and Communities Julie Reed: "When we had our Ofsted inspection, our children told them what a difference it made on their lives," she said.
"They said they felt safe and they felt loved. And I think if you feel loved as a child, you're really set up well to go forward."
Organised by The Fostering Network, this year, the theme of Foster Care Fortnight is The Power of Relationships and highlights bonds made between a foster carer and a child.
It also celebrates the support of social workers, the friendships built within fostering communities, and the connections with birth families.
"The foster carers really feel valued and they really feel that they're making a difference," said Julie Reed.
"I think as an individual person, if you can make a difference for somebody else's life, that's really rewarding and that's what they told us.
As part of the fortnight, the council are offering an online information evening for anyone who is interested in fostering to find out more and ask questions, with current foster carers involved.
"I adopted two children, so I've got first hand knowledge and experience of this and it has been at times difficult, as it is with any children," added Julie.
"They're grown adults now. I'm really proud of their achievements and that was because I stepped forward and said I'd like to take care of a child.
