Corby Glen is hosting the 788th edition of its annual Sheep Fair, a cherished local tradition that blends history with community spirit.

James Thompson, secretary of the Corby Glen Sheep Fair, highlighted the variety of events planned: "We've got everything from a live sheep auction on Saturday morning to a vibrant mix of activities like live music, a beer festival, and a fun fair with traditional rides and games."

The fair, granted by a royal charter in 1238 by King Henry the Third, originated as a sheep auction and has since evolved into a full-fledged village fair.

James Thompson added: "County traditions are dying out across the UK and we're passionate about keeping ours going".

This year's event will feature a tug of war competition, a baking and craft challenge, and quirky contests like the Weetabix eating challenge.

Local performances will include acts from dance groups and the primary school choir, ensuring there is something on offer for everyone.

Thompson emphasised the community aspect of the event, noting that proceeds go toward supporting the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance and are reinvested into ensuring the fair continues to thrive every year.

"With 20 core volunteers and additional helpers over the weekend, this event showcases the incredible spirit of our village," Thompson said.

Expected to draw attendees from Corby Glen and nearby locations such as Bourne, Grantham, and Stamford, the Sheep Fair is a testament to the enduring appeal of rural traditions and the vibrant community spirit.

Local residents and visitors alike are encouraged to join in the festivities, enjoy the company, and explore the array of stalls and attractions that make the fair a staple of the autumn calendar.
