Community pub in Lincolnshire receives grant for interior refresh
Funding aims to support vital community hub with refurbishment
The Thorold, a community-run pub in Marston, has been awarded £4,500 by Lincolnshire County Council for refurbishments, including a fire door replacement. The funding aims to enhance safety and comfort for locals.
This funding forms part of the council's Strategic Grant Fund designed to support community projects across Lincolnshire, helping to maintain hubs in the community.
County Councillor Ken Bamford expressed his enthusiasm for the project: "The volunteers who keep the pub and shop going do a fantastic job in maintaining this valuable and much-loved community asset both in the village and surrounding area."
The funding will contribute to interior improvements, such as new curtains and acoustic measures to dampen noise, creating a more inviting environment for locals and visitors.
Chris Stephens, Chair of Marston Parish Council, highlighted the importance of the grant in fostering community cohesion: "With this grant the Thorold will be able to substantially reduce internal noise and make it a more inviting place to have a meal or a pint, buy some groceries or meet up with friends."
As one of the first ten projects supported by the Strategic Fund, The Thorold not only provides a welcoming space for social gatherings but plays a role in countering isolation and loneliness within the community.
The refurbishment through the grant will allow The Thorold Community Society to focus on its mission of looking after villagers and regulars while welcoming new locals to enjoy its offerings.
