Claims new authority for greater Lincolnshire will mean a fresh start
It's believed the new greater Lincolnshire authority will mean money will go to where it's most needed
It's claimed the increased funding that comes with have a new combined authority under an elected Mayor in Greater Lincolnshire will make a major difference to the area.
The first meeting took place yesterday ahead of Mayoral elections in May.
It'll see greater powers and a 720 million pound investment over 30 years.
We spoke to Martin Hill leader of Lincolnshire county council about the new set up.
He told us: "The Government as well as the old Government has said that Mayoral combined authorities are the way forward so our view is that as well as keeping Lincolnshire in tact it also makes sure we are ahead of the game so we can design it how we want it rather than having it imposed on us."
We don't see there being a Mayoral precept charged at the moment
Leader of North East Lincolnshire council Phillip Jackson was also at the launch.
The whole of Northern Lincolnshire including the Grimsby and Scunthorpe areas will be included in the combined authority.
He told us:
"It will bring additional funding into the greater Lincolnshire area."
"It will also mean we have devolved powers so we'll be able to direct the funding much more in the areas we know are important to local people - infrastructure - skills - housing for example."
"We've made it very clear we want a very lean organisation and we don't see there being a Mayoral precept charged at the moment."
"At the end of the day it will be the decision of the Mayor of course but the combined county authority areas are there to counterbalance any proposals the Mayor may have."
