800 children take part in workshops to celebrate Lincolnshire Day
Schools across the county take part in interactive learning at the Lincolnshire Showground
Lincolnshire Day celebrations have kicked off in style, with schools across the county taking part in hands-on workshops at the Lincolnshire Showground.
The event, aimed at educating children about the county's heritage, farming and environment, spans two days and involves activities such as cheese-making, netball, egg production, and rocket building.
Paula Cragg, the education executive at the Lincolnshire Showground, said: "It's really important to lean about the county, where they're from and to have the opportunity to try things they've probably never tried before".
The focus of Lincolnshire Day is to teach children about their local area and introduce them to experiences they may not have tried previously. Workshops are designed to engage and excite, with schools incorporating the event into their curriculum. It offers children the chance to learn about their surroundings, from food production to history and science, fostering an appreciation and understanding of their environment.
Paula Cragg added that the event is extremely popular and considered a flagship activity by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society, which runs multiple educational events throughout the year.
Paula added: "The children are buzzing, that's probably the only word I can use. They're trying something they've never done before and they've all god big smiles on their faces, that's what it's all about".
She continued to say what she wants the children to take home to their parents. Paula Said: "I want them to have learnt something and be educated about the county they are from, but I also want them to take away the experience and memories of learning about Lincolnshire Day".
Lincolnshire Day not only educates children but is also a community event, drawing in local businesses and volunteers who help create an enriching experience.
