We're being warned that there is a high risk if wildfires on Lancashire's moorland because of the recent very dry weather.

People who are heading to the countryside are being urged to take extra care and not light fires or barbecues.

Liam Wilson is from Lancashire Fire and Rescue service:

"I can't emphasise how quickly they fires can spread.

"Once they've got going it takes a significant amount of our resources to firstly get it under control and then secondly to extinguish them.

"While we are deploying resources to incidents such as wildfires, we can't be in two places at once so it puts greater demand on our resources for maintaining emergency cover elsewhere in the county".

Lancashire Fire and Rescue attended 120 wildfires across the county in 2022 alone.

In 2018, a fire on Winter Hill near Bolton destroyed 18 square kilometres of moorland.
