Two individuals have been arrested and suspected drugs along with approximately £50,000 in cash have been seized following a proactive police stop check in St Helens on Tuesday, 10th March.

Around 12.10pm, officers on patrol noticed a car behaving suspiciously at the junction of Fleet Lane and Concourse Way, leading them to request the vehicle to stop on Brookland Way.

Discovery during stop check

Following the stop, a quantity of white powder, phones, cash, suspected drugs, and a crowbar were discovered.

A 45-year-old man from Southport was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence, and possession of an offensive weapon.

Further searches at an address in Thornton uncovered additional suspected drugs, cash, and other items, leading to the arrest of a 38-year-old woman on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of criminal property.

Both individuals have been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Police commend smart policing

Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotherham praised the astute work of officers involved, saying it would be subject to a full investigation.

“We see the daily harm that such criminality causes, both to users and through the wider violent crime that is often associated with serious and organised crime. Help us make your communities safer places to be," Inspector Rotherham said.
