Police release CCTV image after car damaged with crowbar in St Helens
Detectives believe the man pictured may have information
Detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they believe could assist with enquiries after a driver was threatened and his car damaged with a crowbar in St Helens.
The attempted assault and criminal damage happened on East Lancashire Road, near Windle Island, at around 5.45pm on Monday 12th October.
Police said they received a report of a confrontation between the occupants of two vehicles, a Peugeot 206 and a black Seat Ibiza.
What happened
The Peugeot was being driven by a man, and the Seat Ibiza had three men inside.
It was reported that one of the men threatened the Peugeot driver and tried to assault him.
He then used a crowbar to cause extensive damage to the victim's car.
The suspects left the scene and travelled towards Manchester.
Arrest
Officers arrested a 19-year-old man from Kirkby later that evening.
He was arrested on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, drug driving and failing to provide a specimen.
He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Police appeal
Detectives are now appealing for the man shown in the CCTV image to come forward.
They are also asking anyone who recognises him to contact police.
Detective Constable Connor Haines said: "This was a cowardly attack on a man who was fortunate to escape without injury, although extensive damage was caused to his vehicle."
DC Haines also said: "While we have made an arrest, our enquiries remain ongoing and I would urge the man pictured, or anyone who recognises him, to get in touch. We believe he may hold information that could prove vital to our investigation."
