Rossendale Police have issued an update regarding the recent dispersal order implemented in Rawtenstall to address ongoing antisocial behaviour in the town centre.

Chief Inspector Phil Brown explained that the order was issued following multiple reports of large groups engaging in troublesome activities, including setting off fireworks and causing damage, over the past few weekends.

The dispersal order, authorised under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, aims to reduce the likelihood of crime and disorder. It grants officers the power to order individuals to leave a specified area for up to 48 hours, with non-compliance considered a criminal offence.

Chief Inspector Brown reassured the community, saying, "People should be able to enjoy spending time in Rawtenstall town centre without the fear of being subjected to bad behaviour. We continue to take reports of all antisocial behaviour seriously and are committed to addressing issues that cause disruption to our communities."

He also encouraged parents to be vigilant about their children's whereabouts and activities, adding, "We recognise that the vast majority of young people are respectful and law-abiding. However, parents and guardians also have a responsibility to know where their children are, what they are doing, and how they are behaving in the community."

Rossendale Neighbourhood Police Team, in collaboration with their Response colleagues and partners, are conducting high visibility patrols throughout the week and will act robustly against those involved in antisocial activities.

Residents are urged to report any antisocial behaviour or criminality by contacting 101.
