The family of Rob Campbell, a 40-year-old from St Helens, has paid tribute following his tragic death in a motorcycle collision on East Lancashire Road in Haydock.

Emergency services were called at approximately 11pm last night, Monday 8th June, after reports of a collision between a motorcycle and an HGV on the westbound carriageway between Penny Lane and Kenyons Lane South.

Rob, the rider of the motorcycle, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The collision is believed to have involved two HGVs.

One vehicle is thought to have been in direct contact with Rob, while a second HGV may have contributed to the circumstances leading to the incident.

Police have arrested a 28-year-old man from the Widnes area on several charges including causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving and driving while unfit through drugs.

A 38-year-old man from Carmarthenshire has also been arrested on similar charges.

Both men remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper from Merseyside Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said, “Our thoughts are with Rob's family at this incredibly difficult time.”

He urged anyone travelling in the area at the time of the incident to check their dashcam footage for evidence that may assist the investigation.

Investigators are particularly interested in footage showing either HGVs, which were towing white trailers, or the motorcycle involved.

The family of Rob Campbell has shared heartfelt words, describing Rob as "a devoted dad to his three beautiful girls," and emphasizing that his children were the centre of his life.

"Rob was a devoted dad to his three beautiful girls and there was never any doubt that they were his whole world. Every choice he made was rooted in his love for them. Being their dad wasn't just part of his life, it was the very centre of it," his family said.

They described him as "kind and gentle," noting that he cherished life and held onto moments and memories with deep sentimentality.

Music was one of Rob's great joys, a constant companion that "lifted him, grounded him, and filled his days with rhythm and meaning."

"He leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness. A big-hearted man whose presence made life better for the people lucky enough to know him," the family added.

His family shared that Rob's girls will forever carry his love with them, with the memory of his gentle spirit enduring among those who knew him.

Merseyside Police urge anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit or reach out to Crimestoppers anonymously.
