A 25-year-old man from Colne has been arrested on suspicion of attempted wounding
A police officer was dragged by a car and thrown into the road while trying to arrest a driver during a suspected drug deal in Nelson, Lancashire Police has said.
A 25-year-old man from Colne has been arrested on suspicion of attempted wounding and possession of Class A drugs.
He has been interviewed and released under investigation while enquiries continue.
What police say happened
Lancashire Police said officers spotted a potential drug deal on James Nelson Way on Saturday 17th October.
PC Rick Wilson, of the Prosper Partnership Policing Team, tried to arrest the driver of a Renault Megane.
Police said the driver put the car into reverse in an attempt to get away.
The force said this caused PC Wilson to be dragged by the car and thrown into the road.
He suffered injuries to his knee, leg, hand, forearm and shoulder.
Police said the driver crashed into metal railings and drove off at high speed.
Officers block in the car
PC Wilson got back into his police vehicle with fellow officer PC Aimee Jarrett.
Police said the pair followed the car into a nearby cul-de-sac, where they blocked it in and removed the man from the driver's seat.
The force said a quantity of what was suspected to be cocaine was also found in the car.
Officer back on duty
Police said PC Wilson was back on duty the following day despite his injuries.
The force said violence against emergency workers is never acceptable, and no officer should be injured for doing their job.
