Man arrested after suspicious explosive items found on Cottam Avenue
The 18-year-old currently remains in custody while specialists assess the items of concern
Preston Police have arrested an 18-year-old man after finding a quantity of items that include potentially explosive material.
A pre-planned warrant was carried out yesterday (Wednesday, October 22) just after 2pm, where police attended an address on Cottam Avenue.
The man was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act and now remains in custody.
Police officers and specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Department are attending the scene to check any harmful items.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue services, as well as the Northwest Ambulance Service are providing help and support to the local police during this time.
A number of properties have been evacuated to ensure safety and a cordon is currently in place.
Chief Supt Chris Hardy said:” We have a significant policing and emergency services presence at the scene, and we are asking people to avoid the area where they can.
“It is expected the response at the scene will last into this evening and I want to thank residents who have been affected for their support and cooperation while we go about our work.
“We appreciate that this will be concerning for the local community, but we want to reassure all residents we are working extremely hard with all our partners to make the address safe and bring this matter to a swift conclusion.”
