Pedestrian in his 30s dies in fatal M65 crash near Burnley

A man in his 30s has died following a collision on the M65 near Burnley.
The incident took place at around 9:50pm on Friday evening (21st November), near the Junction 10 slip road westbound of the motorway.
A pedestrian was hit by a white Fiat Punto before a brown Mitsubishi ASX also collided with him.
Emergency services attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the white Fiat Punto, a 24-year-old man from Burnley, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit due to drugs.
The driver of the brown Mitsubishi ASX, a 31-year-old man from Nelson, also failed to stop at the scene and was later located. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit due to drugs.
Sergeant Pete Fyans of the Road Policing Unit said: “A man has very sadly died in this collision, and our thoughts remain with his loved ones at this difficult time.
“Our investigation is in its early stages, and we are carrying out a number of inquiries, some of which will require assistance from the public.
“I want to make a direct appeal to anyone who was travelling on the motorway, and may have witnessed, or have dashcam footage of the collision.
“We also want to hear from witnesses who might have seen a man walking in the Gannow Top (Junction 10) area and then entering the motorway network.
“Additionally, we’d like to hear from any witnesses who saw a brown Mitsubishi ASX with offside panel damage between Junction 10 and entering Blackburn.”
