Lancashire's future adult social care vision is set to prioritise independence and community connection under the proposed Model of Care, Better Care, Better Lives.

Scheduled for review by the Lancashire County Council's Cabinet on 1st October, the care model aims to offer earlier support closer to home, centered around individual needs and preferences.

The initiative follows the strategic direction agreed upon in May 2026, with the intent to provide people the support they need, consequently reducing the need for repeated storytelling to receive help.

County Councillor Tom Pickup emphasised that good care extends beyond services to include independence, relationships, and a sense of belonging.

He stated, "Nobody should have to tell their story over and over again to get help. This model is built around what they told us."

The model focuses on early help, neighbourhood support, and offers flexible options like specialist housing, home support, and 24-hour care near home.

Community and voluntary organisations will play a central role, working alongside health partners and care providers to bolster specialist support services, including dementia care and rehabilitation post-hospital stay.

Once endorsed, the next phase will involve detailed planning, keeping the input from those who shaped the model.

There are no current plans to close any services or buildings, and future proposals will depend on separate business cases and consultation processes.
