Around 70 homes were evacuated on Sunday evening in Carnforth after someone reported to police they'd found something they believed was an unexploded ordnance in their garden.

A cordon was put in place and people nearby were asked to leave their homes.

Explosives experts were called in and removed the device which was found to be expended and not live.

Everyone was able to return home by about 7.30pm.

Police have thanked locals for their cooperation and understanding.
