Illegal e-bikes and scooters seized by police in Preston
Operation targets anti-social behaviour in the city.
Police in Preston have seized a range of illegal e-bikes, e-scooters, and off-road bikes as part of a wider initiative designed to combat anti-social behaviour in the area.
The operation took place on Sunday, 4th October, led by officers from Preston’s Neighbourhood Policing Team and Specialist Operations in response to community concerns. Over the course of the operation, a total of 27 vehicles were seized in Preston city centre under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act. These seized vehicles are now set to be destroyed.
This effort forms part of Operation Centurion, a county-wide initiative that aims to tackle anti-social behaviour, including the illegal use of e-bikes, e-scooters, and motorbikes. The operation responds to issues highlighted by the public through the Lancashire Talking survey.
Inspector Adam Pearson from Preston's Neighbourhood Policing Team emphasised the community impact: "We know the significant impact that illegal e-bikes and anti-social driving has on our communities, and we are committed to taking robust action against those responsible."
Pearson added, “Removing these vehicles helps make our streets safer and sends a clear message that this behaviour will not be tolerated. We will continue to carry out targeted operations and act on the information provided by the public to address these concerns."
