A 'dangerous' Lancashire man has been jailed for over four years after grooming and attempting to meet a 14-year-old boy.
Ian Williams, 72, of Derby Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child under 16, and attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.
A police investigation uncovered that between 25 September and 8 October 2025, Williams was engaging with what he believed to be a 14-year-old boy online.
He sent explicit messages and talked about meeting up for sexual activity.
On 8 October 2025, Williams went to Blackpool Train Station to meet the 'boy' and commit child sex offences.
Instead, he was met with officers and arrested.
Detective Inspector Jon Weir from the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit said: “Williams is a dangerous individual, he demonstrated this by communicating with the boy and ultimately travelling to commit a serious sexual offence."
Williams has been jailed for four years and two months, has been handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
