The family of an 82-year-old man who died after a road collision in St Helens have paid tribute to a “much loved” husband, father and grandad.

Ian Stewart Baillie, from Rainhill, died following a collision involving a grey Vauxhall Corsa at the junction of the A570 James Roby Way and Chapel Lane on Monday afternoon.

‘His generosity shaped our lives’

Mr Baillie’s loved ones described the profound impact he had on their lives in a heartfelt statement.

They said: “His generosity, strength and laughter shaped our lives in countless ways. Always in our thoughts, prayers and forever in our hearts. RIP.”

They also remembered him as a “much loved husband, father, father-in-law and grandad”.

Investigation continues after fatal collision

Merseyside Police confirmed the driver involved stopped at the scene and is assisting with enquiries. No arrests have been made.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Road death causes devastation for all those involved, and it is our absolute priority to get answers for his family.”

Appeal for witnesses

The collision happened on a rural stretch of the dual carriageway with limited CCTV coverage.

Officers are appealing for witnesses, particularly drivers with dashcam footage, to come forward as investigations continue.

Police say any information, especially from motorists who were in the area at the time and have not yet spoken to officers, could be crucial.
