The Government is assessing evidence and opinions surrounding the classification of ketamine, in response to calls from Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner.
Commissioner Clive Grunshaw has urged the Government to reclassify ketamine as a Class A substance due to its increasing misuse, especially by young people, and the severe impact it has on health and communities.
Policing Minister Sarah Jones MP has acknowledged the health risks associated with ketamine, including irreversible bladder damage.
The Minister highlighted the proactive efforts taking place in Lancashire through Operation Shore, a coordinated approach to address the supply and misuse of ketamine.
There is confirmation that various findings, including those from the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs and police commissioners, are being analyzed before a decision is made.
