Adam Underdown, from Fleetwood, has been jailed after pleading guilty to engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour towards a woman.

He received a three-year prison sentence and a restraining order at Burnley Crown Court on 16th October.

The court heard Underdown, 34, verbally abused and assaulted the victim, restricted her contact with loved ones, and pressured her to abandon social media.

Underdown's controlling actions included constant phone calls demanding her whereabouts, comments on her clothing, and leaving her feeling humiliated.

In one incident, Underdown spat in the victim's face, grabbed her throat, and threw her, causing a head injury.

He continued the assault by pulling her hair and slamming a door onto her foot repeatedly.

Underdown initially denied coercing the victim but later pleaded guilty to the charges.

In her statement, the victim expressed the relentless control she faced and the impact on her self-trust.

Detective Constable Beth Marler of Blackpool CID commended the victim's bravery and urged others in similar situations to report such behaviour.

Marler stated that Lancashire Police will protect victims and bring offenders to justice.

Anyone seeking to make a report can contact the police on 101.
