Six fire engines still at scene of large barn fire in Euxton
Firefighters have worked overnight to stop the blaze spreading to nearby buildings
Six fire engines remain at the scene of a large barn fire at Culbeck Farm, on Culbeck Lane in Euxton.
Firefighters were called to the barn fire at 11.20pm on Wednesday 23rd September, and found a large straw barn well alight on arrival, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said.
The incident was quickly escalated, and at its height involved eight fire engines, supported by specialist officers, a water bowser, command and incident support units, and drone resources.
The barn measures approximately 40 metres by 20 metres, and contains around 250 tonnes of straw.
Firefighters worked through the night to prevent the fire spreading to nearby agricultural materials and buildings, the fire service said.
Damping-down operations are continuing, and machinery is being prepared to remove burnt and smouldering straw from the barn.
Six relief crews have been brought in to continue firefighting operations.
The fire service described it as an ongoing and protracted incident.
People are being asked to avoid the area and keep nearby roads clear for emergency vehicles.
Residents affected by smoke are advised to keep windows and doors closed, and motorists are asked to take care and not to impede emergency vehicles attending the scene.
Further updates will be issued when available, the fire service said.
