Former teacher jailed for sexually abusing pupil in Lytham St Annes

A former teacher has been jailed for 11 years after grooming a teenage pupil and engaging in sexual activity with her in Lytham St Annes.
David Brown, 35, used his school email to groom the girl from July 2024, before moving their conversations to social media and video calls.
Police say in one video call, he was just in his underwear.
Police later found around 700 text messages between Brown and the teenager, which were sexual in nature.
In December 2025, Brown kissed the girl.
He would later drive her to secluded locations where he engaged in sexual activity with her.
On other occasions he caused her to engage in sexual activity at a property.
The abuse was reported to police by the girl's parent in January this year.
Officers searching Brown's classroom found four mobile phones in one of his desk drawers.
Brown, formerly of St Annes and now of no fixed address, was arrested and answered "no comment" to police questions.
He pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court to:
- one count of sexual communication with a child
- three counts of sexual activity with a child
- and one count of causing a child to engage in sexual activityÂ
He's now been sentenced to 11 years in prison and ordered to sign the sex offenders register.
The victim's mum said in a statement: "I feel that David has stolen a year of our lives, a year of childhood memories I should be making for my daughters have been taken away."
Detective Sergeant Adam Errington, of Lancashire Police's West Child Abuse Investigation Team, said Brown had made the victim believe he cared about her.
He said: "She was not only a victim of his sexual crimes, but also of his mental abuse."
DS Errington added: "Brown is a paedophile who tried to disguise himself as a trusted member of society. He abused his position as a teacher, as a person with a responsibility for young people's wellbeing all for his own sordid sexual interests."
