A man has been sentenced to three years in prison for engaging in sexual activity with an underage girl and assaulting her.

Daniel Carr, who was aware the girl was under the age of 16, engaged in sexual activity and also made threats against her.

He was jailed today (2nd November) by Preston Crown Court Sessions House after pleading guilty at a previous hearing.

Carr appeared in court via video link from prison, where he was on remand.

The 30-year-old from Ivinson Road, Darwen, admitted to engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15 and assault causing actual bodily harm.

A Victim Personal Statement from the girl expressed how Carr's actions have impacted her life.

She said, "He ruined my life. He’s made me cautious and not trust people. He’s made me permanently on the defensive and think people are attacking me. Then I get upset when I realise they’re not.”

In her statement, she added that Carr has shown no remorse for his actions and has never apologised to her.

Lorraine Widdas, investigation officer with Blackburn CID, commented on Carr’s behaviour towards the victim.

She said, “Daniel Carr behaved in a terrible way towards his victim who was vulnerable and younger than him."

Widdas encouraged other victims of sexual offences to report incidents to Lancashire Police, assuring them of support and investigation to bring offenders to justice.
