A major fire has broken out in the early hours of this morning, at a commercial building on Railway Street, Stacksteads, Bacup, with firefighters working through the night to contain the flames.

Six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were initially mobilised to the scene at 01:43 on 21st January 2026. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reel jets, two triple extension ladders, and a ground monitor during the operation.

By 03:22 am, the incident escalated further, with 10 fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, and a drone unit deployed to assist with firefighting efforts.

Residents in the area are urged to keep windows and doors closed if they can see or smell smoke, and motorists are advised to avoid Railway Street, Newchurch Road, and surrounding areas due to multiple road closures.

Emergency services have requested that the public refrain from flying drones nearby, as this may obstruct operations.
