A man has been sentenced for racially abusing a petrol station worker and assaulting police officers in Chorley.

Jordan Longworth, 24, of Kemble Close, Horwich, was involved in an incident at Adlington Motor Services on Market Street on 20th October. Police were called after a car crashed into the petrol station, leading to a fight involving three males. Two of the individuals fled, while officers spoke with Longworth, who later resisted arrest before being taken into custody.

During the arrest and in police custody, Longworth directed racial abuse at the petrol station worker and spat in the faces of two police officers, also elbowing one in the face.

Longworth pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment and two counts of assaulting a police officer. On 22nd October, at Preston Magistrates Court, he was sentenced to a 12-week prison term, suspended for 12 months. Longworth must also complete a four-month alcohol treatment program, a rehabilitation activity requirement, and pay £200 compensation.

Lancashire Police emphasise that they take all reports of hate crime seriously and will investigate thoroughly to bring offenders to justice.

Individuals who have been victims of crime are encouraged to report it by calling 101, or in emergencies, dial 999.
