Gary Taylor, a 41-year-old from Belvedere Road in Burnley, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in a pub in Malpas.

Taylor appeared at Chester Crown Court on 15th October 2026, following a guilty verdict for assault by penetration dated 16th July 2026. He was also given a restraining order lasting for 10 years.

The crime occurred on 18th January 2024, when the victim—a woman in her 20s—attended a bar on Old Hall Street, Malpas. Taylor made unwanted sexual advances before following her to a bathroom in the accommodation area and sexually assaulting her.

Taylor was arrested in Burnley two days later and charged. Despite denying the offence, which led to a trial, he was found guilty.

Detective Constable Vicki Scott commended the victim's bravery, stating: "Taylor has now rightly been handed a significant custodial sentence after taking advantage of a young woman who should have been able to enjoy a night out without enduring such a horrific incident."

Cheshire Police encourage victims of sexual offences to report such incidents by calling 101 or using their online reporting tool.
