Burnley Neighbourhood Policing Team joined forces with partner agencies on Thursday (20th November) to tackle untaxed, abandoned, and road-unworthy vehicles as part of an operation dubbed ‘Bin the Bangers’ .
The initiative focused on the Melrose Avenue area, aiming to address community concerns around road safety and freeing up space by removing unsafe vehicles.
Working alongside the DVLA and Burnley Council, officers successfully removed 15 untaxed vehicles from the streets. Additional measures included handing out two Section 59 warnings for anti-social driving and issuing a MOT Traffic Offence Report to a driver using a vehicle without a valid MOT.
Inspector Matt Plummer, Burnley’s local neighbourhood policing lead, said: “Bin the Bangers is about working closely with our partner agencies to tackle the issues that matter most to our communities.
“Untaxed and abandoned vehicles not only create an eyesore for residents, visitors, and those working in the area, but they can also pose safety risks by obstructing roads and pathways.”
The operation is part of a broader commitment to improve safety and the environment in Burnley, and Inspector Plummer encouraged residents to play their part.
“We remain committed to addressing these concerns and encourage everyone to report issues by signing up to Lancashire Talking and In The Know.”
People concerned about untaxed or abandoned vehicles in their area can contact Lancashire Police or their local council for further help.
