A driver who killed a wheelchair-bound pensioner leaving a funeral wake in Burnley has been sentenced to four years and eight months in prison.

76-year-old Brian Trevithick admitted causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.

Preston Crown Court heard how in February 2024, Trevithick accidentally reversed into a parked Ford Fiesta before his automatic car lurched forward.

His car ploughed straight through the entrance of Greenhill Social and Bowling Club seriously injuring 72-year-old Lynne Harvey.

They had both just attended a funeral wake there.

A woman in her 50s, who was pushing Lynne's wheelchair, was also injured but has since recovered.

Lynne died in hospital from her injuries.

Trevithick initially drove off, telling officers he felt threatened by witnesses’ reactions, but returned a short time later and was arrested by police.

Investigations found he had failed to disclose the medication he was taking to the DVLA.

If he had disclosed this, his license would've been revoked.

“She always looked after, loved, and cared for her children.

"She loved, talked about, and adored her grandchildren, never failing to mention them.

“A loving and caring friend.

“A tragic loss to us all. She will be remembered for as long as we live. We will hold the fond memories in our hearts. Miss you forever.”
