A man has been convicted of attempted murder after running another man over in Blackpool.
Niall Reynolds, 24, of Glenmore Drive, Coventry was found guilty following a two-day trial at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday (October 28th).
He was convicted of attempted murder, driving a motor vehicle while above the alcohol limit, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, and two offences of criminal damage.
Reynolds' appearance in court related to an incident after he was involved in a verbal altercation with the victim, aged 28, just before 3am on April 27th, 2026.
The court heard how Niall had a brief exchange with the victim while he was waiting for a taxi together with friends.
Niall had asked the group if they sold drugs, and then became offended when they told him no.
He then got in a black Volkswagen Passat and drove at the group, during which the car mounted the kerb and hit the victim while chasing him onto the road.
Reynolds had initially driven off, but drove back after realising how badly the victim had been injured. As the victim was moved off the road, Reynolds fled the scene again.
The victim sustained serious injuries that left him hospitalised for several months, while Reynolds was stopped and arrested a short time after the incident.
Speaking on the ruling, Detective Constanble Ross Gibbs from Lancashire Police said: “This was a random attack, with Reynolds and the victim not known to each other. Reynolds used his car as a weapon and his deliberate actions led to the victim suffering serious injuries.
“He showed a complete disregard to his life, driving the car over him and then appeared to aim for him again as he lay on the road. I hope that the jury’s verdict can deliver a sense of justice to his family.”
